Kampung Baru

A long day, a quiet nap, a chill night, a celebration, a feast of memories - some already dissipated, and some you can no longer remember. Everything coming together in a jumble of emotions and images. As a new village appears and landscapes slowly move, you observe daily routines that interlace with each other, attracting attention and fading away. In search of a new village and a contemporary zone, Raymond Liew Jin Pin delved into the field of traditional dance movements. He allows himself – created with three contemporary dancers in Germany — and now with three Malaysian artists Loke Soh Kim, Harshini Sukumaran and Tai Chun Wai will reinterpret his cultural roots and embody his biography, to merge old and new, east and west, „tradition“ and „modernity“. And at the end, most of it disassembled, the space of the party, the heat, the song, are still there, waiting for you to revisit.

PAUSE PLAY KEYART_FB COVER-02 post show.png

In 2021, Seni Tiga shifted the focus from the 'end product' to the 'process' - of coming together, of making something and of making sense of the global situation on a personal level.

Starting from 6 June 2021, Unit B has had weekly sessions to express in their own ways while exploring sounds, movements and images together along the way. The four month virtual friendship (yes they have not met each other physically!) will reach a milestone with a virtual experience to be presented next week. We are happy to be a part of the journey in the exploration of an alternative method to collaborate and hope you would join us too!

IMPERMANENCE

Water, a vessel to purification,
A vessel to impermanence.
The residue of all matter is carried by water over time,
From the strong ridges of mountains, to the sands in sea.

Held during the month of the highest rain fall, nature creeps in to Kongsi KL as rain falls within its confined spaces. Its deep route of industry is transfigured, aged with water and sand, where the self and the infinite can be reflected

Senitiga: Fabric
Drawing inspirations from Kuala Lumpur’s constant and rapid (re)development, the collaborative performance is the artists’ take on the city’s state of flux.

The projections animated at real-time from footages and comics created prior to the show gave a new spatial experience to the audience in the performance area with the help of sound design as well as field recordings.

#ReconnectKL #Urbanscapes2019

About the artists:
Nadhir Zuhair Nozi | new media / projection artist
Nad.io is the whiz-kid of Saishogen, a multifaceted creative collective with various skills and backgrounds that have performed in various countries.

At 24, he quit his full time job and started painting. He then launched a picture book “The Boy Who Loved Clouds” and held his very first solo exhibition. Now, he sells his comics on Patreon.

Besides drawing, he does photography, videography and runs Taman Desa Screening Club.

Uzair Sawal | sound artist

Senitiga: As We Go Along
The performance is a journey to seek answers within the cloudiness of everyday life by exploring the virtues of water.

The dance artist interacts with typographical and graphical textures created prior to the show, where all projections are animated at real-time and triggered using sensors that pick up different stimuli.

#ReconnectKL #Urbanscapes2019

About the artists:
Kent Lee | sound artist
Kent plays various instruments and is explorative in his musical expressions. He collaborates frequently with musicians and artists from other disciplines.

Kent has been performing locally and internationally for over a decade in various scenes and settings, ranging from commercial events, gigs, improv sessions to sound design for dance and theatre.

is a multi-disciplinary artist, his works encompasses music, visual arts (animation & stills), flow arts and soap bubble arts. While exploring soap bubbles, Faris also went in depth into the science of soap bubbles; how they rearrange themselves in a specific geometrical way and how the color dynamics came about, which are known as fractals, repeating patterns in different scales, of which can be found almost anywhere in nature. The discovery led him into making fractal arts as Vuevossa Visuals

Ichiko Aoba x Lin Yiloh Asia Tour 2019 (with Liyana Fizi)

Date l Friday, 1st November
Time l 8:30pm
Venue l Kongsi KL
Ticket Prices l RM88 (Presale), RM100 (Door)
Ticket Link l https://forms.gle/cBJkHTgspLcWJTE69

Ichiko Aoba
Japanese indie female songstress, known for her soft, lingering voice and intricate guitar work.

Lin Yiloh
Taiwanese female singer-songwriter (also known as vocalist of Skip Skip Ben Ben and Freckles)

Liyana Fizi
Malaysia local indie singer, musician, songwriter, composer and producer

Live Fact
“Though small, Live Fact has increasingly become the go-to venue for plenty of musicians. The sedulous men behind the space have managed to secure an impressive number of shows by a slew of local and international artistes in less than a year. While locating the venue can present a small challenge, but just as the owners have said, there is a thrill in seeking out and patronising an “unconventional gig space.” The intimate venue is a self-sustaining place where musicians can rehearse and perform, and gig-goers can also purchase drinks at the venue while watching the fledgling talents whom local music websites and publications – such as ours – have always touted. Additionally, the men in charge of Live Fact have also created a few music series such as Kontakt and Live Sparkle to showcase a small but diverse bill of artistes. Mind you, this place is not limited to just bands or singer-songwriters, but rather, it is opened to anyone who just want to play and entertain. In fact, it has had a number of club nights before!” - Juice online

When The Dark Hits Me is inspired by the late British contemporary playwright Sarah Kane, 4.48 Psychosis. There is no specific plot in this play, which is a type of stream of consciousness drama. The main story is about a mental illness patient's inner struggle. He is surrounded by medical staff all day long. In the process, he has not been really understood. This is his sincere confession to the world, conveying his love to people in an extremely cruel way.

It is absolutely exciting when we learned that T.H.E Dance Company from Singapore is making Kuala Lumpur as the first stop for their SEA Tour, as an outreach to support the local dance and performance art scene of the selected SEA countries.

Celebrating the spirit of kongsi, we have invited 6 Malaysian local dancers and musician to have a cross-over with the dance group from Singapore in a 4-day improvisation lab to come up with a site specific piece echoing the concept of Hollow Body. The exciting piece that cross discipline and geographical boundary will be presented on 23/11 and 24/11, along with two other pieces from T.H.E Dance Company, 'Pure' and 'Present' .

KongsiKL believes that the process of making art is as important as the final product itself. For the curious ones who would like to see the improvisation process and dialogue between the artists from both Malaysia and Singapore, our doors are open!

Alongside the performance:

1. 'Hollow Body' improvisation lab (open for public viewing)
21-23 November 2018; 3.30pm-6.00pm

National Bandits - A Beautiful Mistake
Mayaw Biho | 2000 | 56min | DVD

The elderly Bununs of Tung-Pu have habitually referred to workers at the Vu Mountain National Park as 'national bandits' instead of 'national park employees.' In the eyes of these old Bununs, the designation of this land as national park has robbed them of most of their ancestral territories, leaving only a very small portion for them to live and farm. To them, this is what bandits do.

KONGSI KOLAB

/collaborative/

An initiative by the KongsiKL community to cultivate cultural and creative vitality by connecting people to accomplish something bigger.

Opening its door for people from different disciplines, KongsiKL acts as an accessible platform for multi disciplinary experimental works, especially of the arts and cultures, as well as discussions.

There will be opportunities for participation, mutual learning and dialogue in this energetic social environment by opening out processes of production, material exploration and connection with other fields, encouraging new developments by engaging artists and our locality through acts of looking, thinking and producing.
