Turning Visual Arts into Projections

28-29/5, 4-5/6 & 11/6 | 7:30pm - 9:30pm

Learn the techniques and skills to transcend the limitations of scale and perspective by transferring visual works onto physical objects through projection mapping. This class will touch on the technical and creative aspects to enable participants to operate a projector and manage a projection mapping project.

RM800/course; RM650/course for participant with projector

  • Day 1 (28 May):

    • Ice breaking

    • Theory: On projector and projections

    • Practical: Site analysis

    • Presentation: Site selection

  • Day 2 (29 May):

    • Theory: Understanding canvas, translation of digital idea through softwares, precedent studies

    • Practical: Mapping demo

    • Presentation: Rough idea 

  • Day 3 (4 June):

    • Presentation: Proposal

    • Practical: Mapping 

  • Day 4 (5 June):

    • Tech run

  • Kongsi School Open Day (11 June):

    • Presentation of works


This workshop is for anyone with basic still or motion visual arts software knowledge (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premier Pro, etc.)

Participants to bring:
i) Laptop (i5 processor with graphic card)
ii) Projector (if available)

Serious participants who would like to apply for bursaries are to put a note in the sign up sheet and make yourself available on 15 May for an interview with the instructor.


Grasshopper (Filamen)

Shakir (aka Grasshopper) is a multidisciplinary artist and one of the cofounders of Filamen. As an independent artist, Shakir creates still graphics, motion graphics and other visual works in production and post-production. With the audio-visual collective Filamen, he does projection mapping and builds interactive installations locally and overseas.
